OVERVIEW
“Shine on You” is a video call application combining with Augmented Reality technology that is designed to help people maintain their privacy during a video call. The advent of augmented reality technology has blurred the distinction between the real world and the virtual world. As the demand for video calls increases, we have more opportunities to encounter situations that found out porous aspects of video calls from not only UX design but also technology. This new technology of AR interacts with a video call service that is designed to help people cover whatever they want to keep out of sight from the screen.
BACKGROUND
Few people would have guessed that a historical pandemic would strike in 2019 and radically change how people lead their lives. Many companies have changed their employees’ working environments to be more flexible. Employees work from their homes rather than their designated offices. Additionally, many public institutions, including high schools and colleges, are using a telecommuting system. However, although people spend much more time at their homes than at any other time, that does not mean their homes are always ready to open to the public via video calls and conference calls.
CHALLENGE
This is the time to adapt to a rapidly changing world. The COVID-19 pandemic is a significant event that has caused people's lives to change irreversibly, and people are still struggling to overcome this situation. The part of life that has changed the most is the working and studying environment. Most public institutions and companies are switching to online meetings and online classes, which has resulted in the increased use of video calls. I designed a video call service with additional technology that is helping people live easier and more comfortable lives in the pandemic world.

Shine on You is a special project for me which emulates my life experiences. As we are facing a global pandemic, my intention is to contribute to adapting the changing lifestyle by using augmented reality technology. By conducting a lot of research, I have found practical problems and resolved them for people with feasible solutions. I learned that creating is not started from a genius idea, but an inconvenient experience.
